Musings from the Front Porch

My friend, Meg, recently started a wonderful blog called Musing from the Front Porch where she talks about being a first time homeowner and all that it entails...from decor to cooking to lessons learned. She just featured our Denver loft on her Style Spying. Check it out here.

Also, here's a video tour of our place.

this young house

don't you just love a good before & after?

i've seen this young house mentioned on 2 different sites today, so i had to check it out. they've done a great job with their home. if before & afters of their house aren't enough for you, they also have pictures of other rooms that they've helped redesign.

weekend accomplishments

after spending a good bit of time at the new apple store in town, danny & i decided to stop by steinmart and check out their tie selection. it's a good thing we did! we found 3 matching ties that danny really liked on sale plus the cashier gave us an extra discount as a wedding gift. gotta love that! still on the hunt for a slightly different tie for danny, we went next door to ross and somehow found the perfect one - the lovely paisley one on the left. it's the same brand as the 3 we got at steinmart, so the colors are a perfect match. cheers for the first purchase for the men!

the next afternoon i went by old time pottery to wonder around. first find was a photo album that is perfect for our photo guestbook. it's grey like the suit we have picked out for the boys. cost? a whopping $4.99!

second find was fabric. old time pottery has a large table of random pieces of fabric. some random lengths, some still on bolts. after some searching, i found this:

i think it'll look great on the tables as either table runners or accent squares possibilty on top of a gold tablecloth. there was 6 yards which is enough to do 6 table runners. i already liked the idea of mixing fabrics for the tables so if i can find another fabric to compliment it, it'll be perfect.

3 wedding purchases made in just 2 afternoons! aren't we efficient? :)

stealing an idea from mrs. tulip (possibly)

so, mrs. tulip just posted about her wedding day details. one of the details was an aisle runner made of a sari from india!

what a wonderful idea! even with an indian best friend, that idea had never crossed my mind. saris are gorgeous & come in a billion different colors and designs.

i just found one on ebay that's close to 20 feet of material for about $30. i don't know if i want an aisle runner or not, but if i do decide to have one, the sari route is the way i'm going.

how fabulous is this?

at the wedding, we are going to have a bar area with wine and beer galore. we're not having a bar tender b/c that seems silly with just wine and beer. cheryl had suggested that a sort of bucket filled with ice would be good to put the white wine in & would look great on the table. let me also add the lodge is full of orangey copper accents. so, look what i found...

it's like someone was listening to my thoughts! it's about $30 so not too bad. i haven't bought it yet, but i do keep visiting it online to say hello...we'll see how long i last.

productive weekend

last weekend, my family attended a luncheon at the opryland hotel to honor my little brother, kevin, earning the rank of eagle scout. the luncheon itself wasn't all that exciting, but it was wonderful to have our entire set of siblings in one place to let kevin know how proud we are of him for his accomplishment (even if it was completed the day before the dealine).

after the luncheon, we all went over to opry mills to walk around before everyone had to go home (i can't tell you the last time i was at opry mills...it's been forever). after buying a pair of shoes at offbroadway, i went into earthbound trading company to browse around. this shop is full of random things: jewelry, saris, budha figurines, japanese lanterns, insense, and what else do they have? centerpieces for weddings, of course!

i pulled one out last night to test it out, and i love them! i'm so excited; i think they're going to look great. if you can't tell from the picture, they look like trees & the votive holders are orange glass. in the words of chandler bing, perfection!

we cleaned them out. seriously bought all they had.

and the best part...

my sister even got the clerk to give us an extra 5% off! woohoo!

centerpieces

i don't really want to use cut flower for our centerpieces. we're thinking either bunches of candles or potted mums. here are a few centerpieces that have caught my eye.
