happy wedding

danny has always loved warwick basses. four years ago, he fell in love with one in knoxville - a fretless corvette. it was gorgeous with a solid wood body and the lack of frets meant the bass sounded like an upright. hours of our lives were spent visiting the bass at guitar center, but he never bought it because like all things we want, it was way too expensive.

fast foward to 2008. when we were in knoxville a couple weeks ago, danny and the warwick rekindled their love. danny came home obsessed with getting one. last week, he sent me a link to an ebay auction. he had a found a like-new fretless warwick corvette for a great price, but before he could buy it, it was gone. someone else snatched it up before he could. he was so upset about it. he talked about it for days. what he didn't know was that i was the one who bought it. :)

three days later, a large box appeared on our doorstep. i assured danny i had no idea what it was. maybe someone sent us a wedding gift? i told him to just open it up and see what it is. danny opened the box and discovered his perfect, dream warwick bass inside. i don't think it has left his side since then.

it really is a gorgeous instrument. the body is made from bubinga. when i first saw in college how much he loved it, i thought, "maybe one day when we get married, i'll get it for him as a wedding gift," and i managed to do it without his having any idea whatsoever. a perfect surprise and in his words, "the best wedding present ever." now, he just has to learn how to play bass without frets.
