they're away!

this past weekend, we finally got our save the dates out the door. well, out the inbox is more accurate. we were cutting it close as we are a couple weeks past the 6 month mark (want to give people plenty of time to be thinking about travel and accommodations) which is when we wanted to send them out, so we decided to go with electronic save the dates. they were faster, cheaper, & more enviro-friendly as they required no paper or postage, just an internet connection. the image itself was a link to our wedding website so people can get more info.

we had a couple different versions going, but this is what we decided to go with. i'm really happy with the way they turned out (although i just noticed something...oh well, too late now). we took the pics ourselves, and i used the yellow banner from our wedding website to tie the whole thing together. they, of course, feature scarlett as the star with the actual "save the date!" card.

another check on the wedding to-do list. love those.

dream #2

last night, i dreamed it was my wedding day & we were all getting ready for the wedding. i'm not sure where we were. i think it was 3 hours until the wedding & i realized that i had forgotten to hire a hair stylist to do our hair. oops. i tried asking someone to find someone, as if it was totally reasonable to find someone 3 hours before the wedding on the saturday. my friend, rachel, showed up, and i thought she was going to help. unfortunately, she had just stopped by to tell me that she had to go somewhere else, that she had other plans.

moral of dream: remember to book hair stylist well in advance & remind rachel the wedding date so she won't make other plans.

we have a way to get to aruba

yes, we have purchased our plane tickets to aruba. yes, we had already booked the hotel, but there were issues with the plane tickets.

when we first booked the hotel & started looking at plane tickets, the flight to aruba required an overnight layover in atlanta but had a short flight home. this wasn't terrible, but we decided to wait to buy tickets to see if the options changed & b/c we didn't really want to have to pay for them yet.

the next time i looked for tickets, there was a short flight there and back, so i decided that as soon as danny's credit card was in my hand, i would buy them. unfortunately, 2 days later, when his card was in my hand, that flight option had disappeared. in it's place was a short flight there & a long flight home with an overnight layover. a layover on the way there wouldn't have been terrible, but i knew we wouldn't be excited about it on the way back to huntsville when all you want to do is get home. needless to say, i was a bit frustrated.

well, yesterday, i decided it was time to check flights again, and what do you know - the flight option with a short flight there AND back was available! holy crap! no hesitation this time; i'll take them! so, we now actually have transportation to get us to the hotel we have booked. pretty good thing to have really.

bill & hillary

i stumbled on the story of how bill & hillary got married & thought i'd share. i don't care what your political view is, it's such a cute story.

It all began in the library for Hillary and Bill. "I noticed that he kept looking over at me," Hillary says. "He had been doing a lot of that." After exchanging several looks back and forth, Hillary stood up and walked over to Bill. "I said 'If you're going to keep looking at me, and I'm going to keep looking back, we might as well be introduced -- I'm Hillary Rodham," she says. "The way Bill tells the story, he couldn't remember his own name."

After her graduation from law school, Bill took Hillary on her first trip to Europe. The two landed in London, and Bill guided Hillary through all the city sites. As the sun was setting that first day, the couple found themselves standing on the shores of Lake Ennerdale and Bill proposed. "I was desperately in love with him but utterly confused about my life and future," Hillary says. "So I said 'No not now' -- what I meant was 'Give me time.'" Bill proposed again and again, and Hillary always said no.

After school, Hillary moved to Arkansas. Not set on a career path, she decided to take a trip home to Chicago and to the East Coast to visit friends and check out prospective job offers. On the way to the airport, she and Bill passed a red brick house near the university with a "For Sale" sign out front. "I casually mentioned that it was a sweet-looking little house and never gave it a second thought," Hillary says. After a few weeks of travel, Hillary returned to Arkansas. When she landed at the airport, Bill was there to pick her up and said, "Do you remember that house you liked? Well, I bought it, so now you'd better marry me because I can't live in it by myself." That time, Hillary said yes.

Hillary and Bill married in the living room of their new home on October 11, 1975. A local Methodist minister and his wife officiated the ceremony as 15 of their closest friends and family looked on. Following the intimate ceremony, Hillary and Bill's friends hosted a reception in their backyard where a few hundred friends gathered to celebrate.

pretty. pretty flower.

(hope you got my reference)

one of the next things on my to-do list is figuring out flowers. i'm not planning on using florist flowers for our centerpieces, just for bouquets and bouts, so for this post i'm focusing on the more important of the two...the bouquets.

here are some that i've come across that i like. as you can tell, i like oranges, yellows, green, & deep purple/wine. i don't really understand when brides have white bouquets and the maids have color. i'm not saying it's not pretty. it's very pretty, very elegant. but why shouldn't the bride have pretty colors? i want pretty colors! i've also discovered that i seem to have a thing for orange calla lilies...uh oh.

i believe the two below are my favorites. i love that the flowers have a kind of texture.

coordinator extrodinaire

i'm so excited - my friend, cheryl, has agreed to forgo her role as wedding guest & take on the very important role of being our wedding coordinator. she's full of great local wedding info and ideas. i'm really happy to have someone that i trust in charge of my wedding day. it will definitely help relieve some stress on the day-of.

yay for cheryl!

photo session scheduled

last week i finally got around to setting up our engagement photo session with our photographer, allison jansen. we decided to have engagement pictures done because danny & i really don't have that many pictures together. most of the time i'm the one with the camera, so i have tons of pictures of danny and scenery. pictures of both of us, however, are hard to come by. it's also a great way to get to know allison, for her to get to know us, and so we'll be more comfortable with our wedding pictures.

i was looking through photos from allison's past engagement sessions and thought i'd share some of my favorites. i really like the ones that are in an urban setting. i think that's what we'll go for with our engagement pics since our wedding pictures will be full of nature.

hairstyles i like

i know that i want my hair up. i like how curly and kind of loose these styles are. i really like the first one, complete with the hairpin. i actually found some hairpins very similar to that one on etsy without realizing it. i like that it's simple & not overpowering or distracting but natural and beautiful at the same time. i'm definitely not a tiara girl.
